Annual Salary: CI$111,360-146,124 (equivalent to F CIG salary scale), commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include 28 days’ vacation and pension and health insurance contributions.

Summary: Provide leadership, vision, and oversight for the Cayman Islands National Museum (CINM) in accordance with Board direction, Annual Performance Agreements, and the Museum Act. The Director works with the Board to establish the Museum’s strategic direction and is responsible for implementing Board directives through the management of operations, finances, staffing, planning, marketing, public relations, security, facilities, emergency preparedness, programmes, and professional museum practices. The role includes monitoring organizational performance against goals and serving as a spokesperson and community liaison alongside the Board Chairperson and Museum Press Office.

Principal responsibilities:  

• Provide strategic leadership and execute the Museum’s mission, vision, strategic plans, and Board directives while ensuring alignment with government priorities and the Museum Act. 
• Lead the overall management and operations of the Museum, including administration, policy implementation, collections stewardship, facilities, security, emergency preparedness, and professional museum practices. 
• Direct, develop, and manage Museum staff, volunteers, and contractors, including recruitment, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development. 
• Oversee financial management, including budget preparation and control, financial reporting, fundraising, membership growth, and development of earned-income activities. 
• Lead the development and delivery of exhibitions, collections management, educational initiatives, public programmes, publications, and audience engagement activities. 
• Drive marketing, communications, and public relations efforts to increase awareness, visitation, community engagement, and support for the Museum. 
• Serve as the Museum’s principal representative and spokesperson, building partnerships with government, cultural institutions, professional bodies, community organizations, donors, and the media. 
• Advise the Board and relevant Ministry on policy, governance, cultural heritage matters, and organizational performance, while ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and governance requirements. 

Supervision of Others: The Director is responsible for all the staff of the CINM and works closely with the Management and Curatorial Teams.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills: The Director must possess a minimum of a post-graduate degree (Master’s or higher) in a discipline relevant to the Museum’s remit (history, art history, cultural studies, archaeology, heritage studies, museum studies). Ten years or more experience in a similar environment with a focus on strong people and managerial skills is preferred.

Required knowledge of and interest in Caymanian history and the areas encompassed by the CINM’s collections, in addition to professional museum ethics, standards and practices. A record of published, peer-reviewed scholarship on subjects relevant to the Museum’s remit would be desirable.
