EXHIBITION OVERVIEW
Ms. Annie Huldah Bodden broke barriers and made history as one of the Cayman Islands’ most influential pioneers in public service, law and politics.
In 1961, she became the first woman appointed as a Nominated Member of the Legislative Assembly, adding to her achievements as the Cayman Islands Government’s first female auditor and chief auditor, and its first female attorney-at-law. Her dedication to public service and legal practice earned her the distinction of becoming the first Caymanian woman to receive the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1976.
Unveiled on 18 May 2021 as part of the Cayman Islands National Museum’s International Museum Day celebrations, Ms Annie Huldah Bodden: A Woman of Many Hats celebrated her remarkable life, trailblazing achievements and lasting contributions to the Cayman Islands. From the Legislative Assembly and the courtroom to her law office and the streets of George Town, Ms. Annie was known for her outspoken convictions, visionary leadership and signature collection of colourful, high-crowned straw hats that reflected her distinctive style and indomitable spirit.
