Capt. Chuckie Ebanks: Shaped by the Sea
EXHIBITION OVERVIEW
The sea shaped Captain Charles O. “Chuckie” Ebanks’ life, work and legacy.
Born in West Bay, Grand Cayman, on 26 November 1951, Captain Chuckie grew up surrounded by Cayman’s seafaring traditions. He built his first boat, a 12-foot skiff named Sea Devil, at just 13 years old, beginning a lifelong connection with boatbuilding, fishing and the waters surrounding his island home.
A skilled fisherman, rod maker and charter captain, Chuckie operated his successful fishing and snorkelling business aboard his 40-foot vessel, Black Princess, for more than two decades. He also became an ambassador for Caymanian tourism and a passionate advocate for recognising the pioneers who helped establish the Cayman Islands as a world-renowned watersports destination. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was remembered as a devoted father, friend and proud Caymanian.
Shaped by the Sea celebrated Captain Chuckie’s life, contributions and enduring connection to the sea.
